1970s Alumni Schedule Nashville Reunion

The Cadets from the decade of the 70s are having a get together at the Embassy Suites, Nashville South just across from Cool Springs Mall on August the 22nd. The get together will consist of a hospitality room on the afternoon of the 22nd, followed by a social at 6:00, a dinner at 7:00, and then nothing but 70s music for as long as you can last. All former cadets from the Decade of the 70s are encouraged to attend this first ever get together dedicated solely to the cadets that were at CMA during the 70s. Please see the following letter for more information and use the registration form at the bottom of this page to get registered for the event.

Letter to 70s Alumni

Fellow Former CMA Cadets:

Have you avoided going to CMA Reunions because it seemed to be too large a gathering with too many people you really didn’t know?  Do you think school reunions are not really worth the effort or more appropriate for normal High Schools?  Have you been to one or more CMA reunions and figured that there is no need to go to anymore?  Would you rather not think about your time at CMA or the people you knew while you were there?  There are former CMA Cadets that fit in each of these categories but we hope to change your minds.

A group of us are planning a get together for former CMA Cadets from the decade of the 1970’s to bring us back together for an evening to visit and renew old friendships.  We hope to see folks that have attended previous reunions but we really want to see former cadets that have not made it to a reunion, or those that have not made it to a reunion in a while.  We hope that focusing on the 70’s will encourage you to set this evening aside to spend with former cadets that you went to school with.

We have set the date of Saturday, 22 August for the event.  We will gather for a social and dinner at the Embassy Suites – Nashville South, located across from the Cool Springs Mall in Nashville, right off Exit 68 on I-65.  We have a banquet room reserved and will have a social with cash bar from 6:00 to 7:00, followed by dinner at 7:00.  We will have music after dinner so folks can sit back and “Listen to the Music” as the Doobie Brothers directed us to do in 1972 or “Dance the Night Away” as Van Halen suggested in 1979 (or as Cream mused about in 1969).  Either way, the room is ours until midnight so we can spend the time as best suits us.

We believe that a lot of people from Nashville, Columbia, and the surrounding areas can enjoy the evening and then return home for the night.  Those coming from out of town can stay at the Embassy Suites at a reduced rate or there are plenty of other places to stay that are close by.  The Embassy Suites is offering a rate of $119.00 per night (plus taxes), which is $30 off the normal rate.  They have a free Manager’s Reception each afternoon and a free Cooked to Order Breakfast each morning.  You can recoup some of the room fee with those events.  To make room reservations, contact the Embassy Suites at (615) 515-5151 and tell them you are part of the CMA Alumni Association group.  Reservations need to be made by 21 July to get the discounted rate.  You can check their web site at www.nashvillesouth.embassysuites.com.

We will have a cash bar in our banquet room that offers a variety of soft drinks, beer, mixed drinks, and wine.  The prices for these drinks are comparable to drinks in local bars and restaurants.  Our dinner offers a choice of two entrŽes, each with accompanying starch and vegetable as well as salad, rolls, iced tea, coffee and dessert.  A full description of the entree options is on the Registration Form on the next page, along with the cost for each option.  We hope you will look at this as an opportunity to enjoy an evening with old friends and get credit for getting your significant other a nice meal.

We need to get a good count on the number of attendees as soon as possible so we can reserve the appropriate sized banquet room.  In light of that, we are asking that you complete the attached reservation form and return it along with your payment by April 30th.  This is well in advance of the event but we must have early arrangements contracted with the hotel.

In addition to the evening activities, we will have a Hospitality Room set up during the afternoon for anyone that is staying in the hotel or for those that just want to come by early before the events kick off.  The Hospitality Room will be open early Saturday and will stay open until the Social begins at 6:00.  Also, if anyone would like to make a trip to Columbia to see the recently opened CMA Museum just write a note on the registration form saying that you would like to see the Museum and when you would like to do so.

We are hopeful that you will attend this get together and that you will encourage others to attend.  If you talk to a fellow alum that did not receive this letter, please let him or her know about the event.  They can contact me for direct registration or you can give them a copy of the form.  We really do believe that everyone will have a good time and that you will be glad that you attended.

If you have any questions please call me at (256) 653-7303 or e-mail me at wpettigrew@knology.net.  Hope to see you on August 22nd.

Count me in to join with other former CMA cadets to renew old friendships, tell a few tall tales, partake in some pretty good chow, listen to nothing but 70’s tunes, and maybe have a taste of my favorite beverage.
